MKF Fly-ins and Events
This is a list of events where members of The Midlands
Kite Fliers will be flying kites. Further details can also be
found on the MKF
Forum
Some of the events are 'fly-ins' - a meeting of
members, with no traders or stalls, but a venue to meet, talk,
learn, make friends and fly a kite. Other events are kite days
or festivals, in conjunction with councils and other organisations,
where display kites are flown and kite retailers are on site offering
the opportunity to buy a kite
Important Information
Although every effort will be made to keep this
up to date any list published in advance is subject to change.
All events are liable to alteration or cancellation. It strongly

Chinese
New Year at Shipley Country Park
Heanor, Derbyshire.
An invitation has been received from Shipley Country Park
for the Club to have a Fly-In to celebrate the Chinese New
Year there on Saturday, and if you wish, on Sunday too.
There will be a Chinese themed
display in the Visitor Centre, and Alan Poxon has offered
to run a series of kite workshops which will hopefully be
self-funding.
It had been hoped to have
a series of other Chinese-related events, but due to an
unfortunate shortfall in funds these have had to be curtailed.
Nonetheless, with weather permitting the MKF can do a very
typical Chinese thing and fly kites.
For those new to Shipley,
at this time of year the ground is usually very wet and
muddy, so come prepared. However, there is plenty of parking,
and a Visitor Centre with Café, shop, and Toilets.
There will be more information
on Kitecalendar.co.uk, but the Park address is:-

Family Fun Day
Birmingham Botanical Gardens
The MKF have been taking part in the Botanical
Gardens Family Fun Day since 1990. It has a small display
area, which is enclosed on all sides with trees and buildings,
but we always try to fly as many kites as possible.
As the flying area is limited we also put
on a large static display inside the main building that
seems to get better every year, so if you have any kite
that you would like to display please bring them along.
The event is usually well attended and is
looked on by many as a relaxing end to the season with a
chance to wind down and have a chat with fellow fliers amid
the impressive gardens that date back to the 1800’s.
MKF membership card will
be required to gain free access for any member who is going
to fly or display their kites otherwise the admission fees
will apply
Other scheduled attractions:
Join in The Big Draw with artist Karoline Rerrie. Try you
hand at mini beasts and bug masks.
Mr Beetle will be enthralling people with his storytelling.

much more.

Some events are small informal gatherings, a sort
of turn up and fly your kite' type of event.
Others are larger more formal organized events or festivals where
the club is being paid a fee to put on a display. At these events
it is usual to allow members free entry on the understanding that
they will be on hand to assist in putting on the display as well
as fly their own kites. There is always plenty to do in setting
up arenas putting up banners and display boards and of course
flying the club kites, along with packing it all away again at
the end. Please come along and help out if at all possible as
all assistance is very welcome and helps make the event more enjoyable
for all.
Most events are held all day, usually commencing
around 10.00am (weather permitting of course!).
Further details can also be found on the MKF
Forum
